SMCO explores the relationship between music and home in the Eleventh Season, "Belonging." Romanian and Czech folk music are heard through the intensely personal works of Ligeti and Janácek in this first orchestral performance of the season. Reena Esmail's Teen Murti, named after the statue in front of the famous New Delhi residence of the first prime minister of India, merges contemporary classical music with three Indian ragas. The virtuoso young pianist Edward Zhang debuts with SMCO performing Chopin's E minor concerto, part of Chopin's musical farewell to his Polish home.
